Engineers of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University developed a miniature robot for surgical operations through one single incision or natural holes on the patient’s body. But the most remarkable in the device is that it is endowed with tactile feedback – this allows the surgeon performing the operation through the robot to feel the hardness of the tissue. Until now, a robotic surgical system did not have such a technology for one.

The NOVEL Surgical Robotic System (NSRS) system is designed to introduce it through a single incision or natural hole, already inside the body it unfolds. Robotized manipulators and micromotors that control them work in the body, without the help and additional intervention of large external devices to manage tools. The Hong Kong robot surgeon has already been tested on pigs, but for use in the human body he needs further finalization.
