British archaeologists made an opening and at the same time admitted that they greatly underestimated the potential of ancient builders. The fact that all this time was simply considered by pits, dumps in the ground or small ponds on the border of Stonehenge, in fact, it turned out to be man -made mines of impressive sizes. They form a ring that surrounds Woodhendge and closes at another old object – Larkhill’s fence.
Woodhendge is a handjah, but instead of stones it was built of logs. Many consider this historical object, if not a single whole with Stonehenge, to which only 3 km, then at least the brainchild of one culture with it. If you look at the location of open pits, they form a ring with a diameter of 2 km, in the center of which Darrington-Uols is located, the settlement of Stonehenge builders. Woodhendge stands a little away from him, and the fence of Larkhill is just on the border of the circle, forming something like entry gates in the complex.
Pits, which had not previously paid attention, after a detailed study with the help of a geolocator and taking the samples were solid – a diameter of 10 m, a depth of more than 5 m. These are pits or storages of something important-perhaps the place of armed ambush or placement of traps. Alas, the age of finds is about 4,500 years old, during which time, the pit has long been overwhelmed with dirt and garbage naturally. In addition, the part was damaged already in modern times due to human activity. Scientists found only 20 pits, although calculations show that they should be many times more.
What was this ring of holes – a fence system, signal beacons, or rituals were held here, we are unlikely to learn. But it is obvious that they were built by people who are versed in mathematics and geometry, plus their disposal were tools and technologies for such a large -scale work. By the way, during the construction of Woodhendge, deep mines were also dug – the ancient builders were much more skillful than we think.
