The invention is called the dielectric elastomeric generator (Deg). The principle of operation is based on the creation of excess pressure in vertical columns in which membranes are installed. The columns are filled with water incoming during the roll of the wave, while the additional air pressure is created that is transmitted by the membrane.

One DEG generator can develop electricity in the equivalent of 500 kW of electricity, this is enough to serve about 100 houses. Developers from the University of Edinburgh plan to put up new generators along the coast of Scotland and, if possible, replace already installed turbine power plants, more expensive in operation.

Scientists believe that the energy of numerous waves is a valuable resource of Scotland, which allows you to produce environmentally friendly energy with the least cost.
