The National Organization “Russian Quality System” and ICRT tested the possibilities of the latest smartphone models. As one of the most important indicators, the reliability of the protection of devices from water was tested. Smartphones were subjected to two types of tests. The first test imitated the hit in the rain. The second test was the full immersion of the smartphone in the water. 35 models were tested, which are declared by manufacturers as moisture -proof.
Destation test condition It was completely lowering the smartphone into a vessel of water to a depth of 1 meter and endurance in this position for half an hour. After 30 minutes, the device was removed from under the water and checked its performance. 35 models were tested for immersion, only 11 were tested. The leader of the test turned out to be Galaxy S8, and the Galaxy S8 Plus took second place. According to the test results, all 11 smartphones received the maximum possible rating – 5.5 points. We present a complete list of models that have passed the test for diving under water for 30 minutes (the devices are located in alphabetical order):
• LG G6 (ninth place in the overall standings);
• Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) SM-A320FL;
• Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017);
• Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (SM-N930F);
• Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (SM-N950F/DS, fourth place in the overall standings);
• Samsung Galaxy S8 (a general event leader);
• Samsung Galaxy S8+ (second place in the overall standings);
• Sony Xperia M5;
• Sony Xperia XZ Premium;
• Sony Xperia Z3+ E6553;
• Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.
Two smartphones are estimated at 5 balls:
• HTC U11 – to restore performance, the smartphone had to wipe it from moisture.
• Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) SM-A520F-in the first minutes after turning on, the sound of the speaker was slightly muffled, but then the dynamics work normalized.
Of the 20 smartphones that received 4 balls, several models of Apple: iPhone 7 (128 GB), iPhone 7 Plus (128 GB), iPhone 8 (64 GB), iPhone 8 Plus (64 GB) and iPhone x (256 GB). “Apple” devices lost balls due to poor operation of the speaker immediately after extracting smartphones from the water. In the process of drying, the work of speakers returned to normal.
The following smartphones are also estimated at 4 points: Cat S60, Google Pixel 2 (128 GB) and Pixel 2 XL (128 GB), HTC Desire Eye, LG V30 (LG-H930, eighth place in the overall standings), Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE (32 GB) and S5 Neo (SM-903F), Sony Xperia X Performance, Xperia XZ, Xperia XZS, Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact.
Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL
Devices Sony Xperia M4 Aqua Dual (E2303 and E2333) were positioned as fully protected from water, however, after extracting smartphones from a water vessel to restore the dynamics and microphone, it took time, equally drying the devices.
Samsung Galaxy S7 (32 GB) SM-G930F and Galaxy Xcover 3 SM-388F devices received 3.5 and 2 balls, respectively, despite the stated water protection. The behavior of the Samsung Galaxy S7 (32 GB) SM-G930F model was completely unlucky. One tested sample worked normally, the second had a problem with a microphone, the third refused the power button, the water penetrated under the glass of the front chamber, and the screen stopped responding to touch. The third device did not restore performance even after drying. Model Samsung Galaxy Xcover 3 SM-388F also did not show stable work for all samples.
Imitation of rain checked on all 337 smartphones provided for testing in “Roskanka”. After being on a special stand “in the rain”, the smartphone was checked for performance after 1, 2 and 3 days.
Almost all subjects of smartphones showed a good result in this test and received an assessment above 4 points. Smartphones either did not have any problems, or these problems disappeared after drying out. All disadvantages are associated with the performance of the speakers.
However, there are 6 models that have not passed the “rain” test. Sony Xperia XA and Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE received an estimate of 3.5 balls. Sony in the rain did not work on the screen sensor, and Lumia had and did not disappear problem with the speaker and microphone.
3 balls received LG Q6 (LGM700A) Dual SIM and BQ Aquaris U Lite (16 GB). Model LG Q6 – the appearance of bright spots on the screen and problems with the recognition of headphones. Model BQ Aquaris U Lite – a green strip on the screen, did not pass even after drying, the sensor also worked incorrectly.
ASUS Zenfone Live (ZB553KL) and Acer Liquid Jade Z S57 showed the lowest results and received 0.5 balls. The Acer Liquid Jade Z S57 model in the test showed various results for different samples. Some withstood the test normally, others completely failed. The ASUS Zenfone Live model refused the speaker in some samples, some of the entire device failed.
