Today’s AMD Radeon R9-290X benefit ends with what we did not even hope for: the Chiphell Taiwanese forum was available for testing the promising video card of the Volcanic Island family, based on the Hawaiiii graphic processor. If you believe the published data, then the Radeon R9-290X has every right to get the title of the fastest single-chip graphic accelerator: the new AMD video card is not only NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780, but also the GeForce GTX Titan.
Along the way, the information given there allows you to fill in some gaps and in the characteristics of this video accelerator. For example, Taiwanese enthusiasts report that the frequency of operation of the Hawaiii graphic processor in Radeon R9-290X is 1.02 GHz, and the memory operates at a frequency of 5 GHz. At the same time, unfortunately, information about the number of streaming processors, texture and rasterization blocks, they do not give. But you have to leave at least something for the official announcement.
The performance of Radeon R9-290X performance was carried out in the 3dmark Fire Strike test and in three games: Alien Vs Predator 3, Battlefield 3 and Crysis 3. Comparison was carried out with senior single -chip accelerators of NVIDIA: GeForce GTX Titan and GeForce GTX 780. The tests were performed in the system based on the Core i7-4960x processor installed in the ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition motherboard, equipped with 16 GB DDR3-2400 SDRAM.
In a pair of games, the novelty AMD, designated in the table with three interrogative signs on a red background, managed to peremptuly ahead of both senior NVIDIA graphics cards, and in Crysis 3 the advantage is on the side of the Radeon R9-290X when turned on full-screen smoothing. In the synthetic benchmark 3dmark Fire Strike, the future flagship video card AMD is slightly behind the GeForce GTX Titan, but noticeably bypassed the GeForce GTX 780. At the same time, the energy consumption of the Radeon R9-290X is at a fairly expected level: between the GeForce GTX Titan and GeForce GTX 780.
Such test results, despite the fact that they are made before the official announcement and are preliminary and unverified, look very encouraging. Indeed, earlier representatives of AMD stated that the Radeon R9-290X price positioning will not be opposed to the GeForce GTX Titan, but it would be cheaper. It is assumed that it will be possible to purchase new flagship AMD video cards already in mid-October, spending $ 600-650.
Update: Radeon R9-290X tests appeared in another source — On the South Korean site DG’s Nerdy Story. There they differ even in greater detail:
In general, the picture does not differ, and Radeon R9-290X confirms its superiority over other single-chip graphic accelerators. The advantage of this card over the previous AMD flagship, Radeon HD 7970, reaches an average of 33 percent, and the averaged superiority over competing accelerators NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX Titan and GeForce GTX 780 is 3 and 12 percent, respectively.
