AMD decided to introduce two new entry -level graphic accelerator in its Radeon R9 solutions line. The names of accelerators can easily confuse — We are talking about Radeon R9 255 and Radeon R9 260 cards. They should not be confused with Radeon R7 250 and Radeon R7 260 solutions, which sound very similar, but belong to the Radeon R7 line.
Judging by the fact that solutions are presented without unnecessary noise, we are talking about marketing products exclusively for OEM manufacturers. In the driver of Catalyst 13.12 WHQL mentions of these video cards were found, and judging by the identifiers, R9 255 is based on the Cape Verde crystal, and R9 260 — On the chip Bonaire. Also on the official AMD website are the main characteristics of these devices.
Radeon R9 255 has the following specifications:
- 28-nm chip Cape Verde (judging by the identifier in the driver);
- 512 stream processors, 32 texture blocks;
- 128-bit memory bus;
- The frequency of the nucleus — 930 MHz;
- up to 2 GB GDDR5 video memory with an effective frequency of 6.5 GHz;
- 6-pin connector for external power.
Characteristics of Radeon R9 260:
- 28-nm chip Bonaire (judging by the identifier in the driver);
- 896 stream processors, 56 texture blocks;
- 128-bit memory bus;
- The frequency of the nucleus — 1100 MHz;
- up to 2 GB GDDR5 video memory with an effective frequency of 6.5 GHz;
- 6-pin connector for external power.
As you can see, the characteristics of the Radeon R9 260 repeat the main indicators R7 260x — Thus, it is more about banal renaming. Radeon R9 255 — Something more new. This accelerator, like the AMD Radeon HD 7770 GHZ, is based on the CAPE VERDE chip, but is characterized by 640 to 512 streaming processors, reduced from 1000 to 930 MHz with 4.5 GHz to 6.5 GHz with a frequency of memory frequencyGDDR5.
