Animodzi in the iPhone X Truedepth sensors is not needed (video)

Announced as working exclusively with the iPhone X Animated emoji, as it turned out, do not require Truedepth technology. Animoji could be installed on all previous iPhone, and not just on an expensive flagship.

The use of Truedepth sensors is mandatory only for person recognition technology. When using Animoji, the camera does not scan his face, but simply captures the facial expression and combines it with the image of an alien, pig’s pigs, and so on. To prove this fact, the researchers from TNW simply closed the ledge on the visor of the iPhone X, leaving the camera eye open. Animodzi is working – Truedepth sensor is not needed.

In justification of developers, two facts can be given. First – Truedepth improves the quality of animation. However, this statement was immediately refuted by testers who did not notice the difference in Animodzi received with an open and closed sensor. The second argument is more significant-the technology of augmented reality (Arkit) is supported by the frontal camera of the iPhone X, while in other iPhone access to the capabilities of AR platforms only has the back cameras. Whether Animoji will be able to appear in other apple smartphones, it is not known.
