“Brain print” will replace all known authentication methods

Scanning the iris with fingerprints of the fingers managed to go into the past. Biometric data, of course, are unique, however, the devices protected by such passwords are hacked quite easily. A device scanning the iris is amenable. A scanner of prints – photos of fingers. Hackers even learned to “put on” the faces of other people. Password of the future – user electroencephalogram.

New York University engineers proposed using human reactions in the role of passwords. Let us explain: they will become caused cerebral potentials. The brain emits these waves, responding to external stimuli, like an image or text. These potentials are unique for each of us, moreover, they are not conscious. So they are simply impossible to fake.

"Brain print" will replace all known authentication methods

Scientists experimented to check whether it is possible to create such a “brain password”. Almost two hundreds of experimental ones, they showed sets of images of various kinds: an animal picture, a brief phrase and a photograph of a celebrity. A little more than a second went to the cycle of demonstration of three pictures. Repeated it 4 times. And then the potential received at the same time was recorded as a password. The whole procedure required no more than 5 seconds.

A new type password was checked for durability and resistance to hacking. To check the reliability, the subject showed several sets of images, while receiving a set of passwords. One was preserved as a worker. Further, the experimental tried to enter the system, using other sets of pictures.

Checking passwords for durability, volunteers were demonstrated by the same sets of images with the interval first of 5 days, then at 5 months. Their reliability was quite high, memorization – in 95%.
